While I’ve been enjoying the warm weather that has bestowed the Northeast through this early fall, I have not failed to recognize that it is already October! And while this year that might not mean Apple Cider and Cute Scarves (at least not of yet…), it does mean opportunity! Here’s why…

One thing I love about October is the merge of summer and fall. October is just a great month to be both inside and outside. The leaves are changing colors and fall while the sun is still peering through the trees. The scenery of fall is absolutely beautiful and if you make time to enjoy the nature of this month you are sure to observe all the magical changes that make October so special. For those of us who love some good fall fashion, we might have to wait a little later in the month to stunt on em’. But, that also means we’ll most likely get to skip out on a real winter this year and who’s complaining about that? “Listen! The wind is rising, and the air is wild with leaves, we have had our summer evenings, now for October eves!” – Humbert Wolfe

October is a great month to have some fun with family and friends. I’m not saying that the other 11 months in the year are not full of fun, but October is undoubtedly full of events and festivities that are sure to keep you busy. For one, October is the beginning of sports season. Okay, so maybe your favorite baseball team isn’t going to the World Series *tear*, but Basketball, Football and Hockey are kicking off this month. If you’re not committed enough to buy a 10-game pass, you can at least gather some friends and family around and watch from home. October is also full of seasonal events like apple picking, art installments and EVERYTHING Halloween (if that’s your thing)!  “You kind of took it for granted around the Yankees that there was always going to be baseball in October.”  -Whitey Ford

October could mean a new job, if you want one. Studies have shown that early fall is one of the best times of year to get a new job. Summer can be slow because employers are vacationing and fiscal years are wrapping up. Around this time of year, job positioning are evolving and changing and hiring processes can be smoother and faster. If new employment is something you’re seeking , October is a great time to go looking. “In October dung your fields, and your land its wealth shall yield.” -Farmer saying

October is the month of opportunity because you want it to be. More importantly because you make it! There are a lot of things going on in the world right now, but nothing is more important than investing in yourself and being of service to your community. Whether small or big goals are on your list at the moment, there is no better time than now to make moves in that direction. You have the warmth of the sun and the glow of the moon on your side.“All things on earth point home in old October: sailors to sea, travellers to walls and fences, hunters to field and hollow and the long voice of the hounds, the lover to the love he has forsaken.” – Thomas Wolfe

5 Ways to Feel the Love this Valentine’s Day

1.Remember When You Loved

Flip through old photo albums of the years passed and reminisce on loving moments with loved ones. Take a walk down memory lane with your friends, family, and/or lover to remember they joy and happiness that their love has brought you. Don’t have time to dust off old albums? Scroll through your Facebook photos from 2010! Yup, that was a whole 5 years ago.

2.Give Love to Passion

Gift your lover with the things they have a passion for. In substitution (or addition) for the chocolates, flowers, and balloons, give your loved one books, information, tools, and materials that can help them do the things they love to do. Help them to reignite the fire that’s fuel their passion and the energy that makes them come alive. Giving to them will make you come alive.

3.Move the Love Around

Rearrange your living and love space. Give your office, your living room space, or bedroom a new look, smell, or feel. Give your space the same attention you give your loved ones. It can be as small as purchasing a scented candle for your desk, changing your pillow cases or tidying up your room a little…or a lot. Give love to your space and your space will give love back to you.

4.Call up an Old Friend

Everyone has a friend or two that they haven’t talked to in a while, but still the love never dies! Reach out to that friend for no other reason than simply that they crossed your mind on this valentine’s day. It’s a great way to both give and receive love in the same act, and remind yourself that love is felt more when you hear it through a voice, rather than a text or an online message.

5.Give Yourself Some Love

Take some extra time out to do something nice for yourself. Head to the gym (if you haven’t been in months…years…okay moving on), give yourself a facial, maybe go to sleep a little earlier than usual. Give yourself some TLC this valentines day. Prioritize it! You have to make sure you have love, so that you can continue to give it those around you. Besides, the love that is the most worthy of celebration is the love you have for yourself. #sarahnsays

Sarahn Says – The message: There is nothing or no one that God has for you that can be taken away by anything or anyone. That’s it. The message…I was trying to send to my friends on this last day of college. Well not my official last day, but that of so many of my friends. It was burning in my mind all day long. I woke up thinking about it, and was waiting for the perfect moment to share it with people I love. Unfortunately the moment never came and as I walked away from the photo ops with the family and the caps and gowns, I could only help but to think to myself that this was a message for me. A message to me, from me…me and the universe. Something to take with me moving forward in the next stage of my life. While I was so eager to share it with anyone and everyone—that perfect emotional moment, that perfect opportunity, it was really meant for me. For me to recognize and for me to understand. No matter where or when or how it happens, this is the message. You need not be envious of anyone’s opportunity, of anyone’s blessing. Instead just remember not to be afraid or doubtful of your opportunity and your blessing, and have confidence in knowing that it was specifically created for you. #sarahnsays

Sarahn Says – There is always another way to fall in love with yourself. This time, trust yourself. It sounds cliché when someone tells you to believe in yourself, and to be confident in who you are, but trusting yourself is the next step. Trusting yourself goes beyond the consistency of your prior actions, it goes beyond who and what others have made you to believe you are. Trusting yourself is when you’re not afraid to question the questions. Trusting yourself is when you celebrate the power you have to decide. All the practice and acquired knowledge in the world won’t mean anything if you don’t trust your own abilities. You don’t need to sell others on who you think they want you to be. You just have to trust yourself. And as a result you will come to appear as everything you are, and nothing that you are not. As a result, you will inspire those around you, and discover another way to fall in love with yourself.

“While my existence in this world is solely defined by my connection to other people, my happiness in that existence will only come when I accept that I am the master of me.” #sarahnsays

Sarahn Says – Sometimes we feel overwhelmed and stressed out by our greatest blessings. We become excited at the possibility of new opportunities, and even more optimistic in the beginning of new adventures. The opportunity to be a student, a teacher, a leader, or a follower…we’re eager, we’re equipped, and we’re ready for the world! And then it happens…sometimes we give too much attention to that second thought, or maybe we allow the wrong energy to influence us, and we come face-to-face with the obstacles that come along with any challenging opportunity. So quickly we begin to see our circumstances as stressors and we forget that we once saw them as blessings. They never changed their place as conducive contributions to our lives, we just stopped seeing them in that way. And as a result, we now connect the opportunity to negative thoughts and feelings and we allow ourselves, and the true place we hold in the circumstance to get lost. These obstacles remain there and they are always on their way to us. We have no control over that. But, it’s not about the magnitude of the obstacles, or even about our preparation for them. It’s about how we react to the obstacles, how we approach the challenges, and how easily we re-commit to not stressing our blessings. You already know that every opportunity is a blessing, but remember that every challenge inside every opportunity is a blessing as well. Recognize the power, and responsibility that comes with receiving and be grateful for the challenge. You’re too blessed to be stressed. #sarahnsays
